AI determines the age of Instagram users by their face*

The social network Instagram* is testing a new set of features to check the age of users, TechCrunch reports. This is a video selfie, confirmation from adult friends and an identity card.

The social network requires you to confirm your age if a young user tries to edit the date of birth, posing as a person of 18 or more years. To confirm his age, he may be asked for a photo of an identity card, and now teenagers from the United States have two new options — to find older guarantors or use the services of artificial intelligence.

AI evaluation involves sending a video selfie to a third-party company, Yoti, which uses machine learning to estimate a person’s age.

Yoti is a well-known player in online age and identity verification, and its technology has been approved for use by the UK government as well as German digital regulators.

Yoti has worked with several major British supermarkets on face scanning counters at self-service counters. The company has also started checking the age of new users of the youth-oriented French video chat Yubo.
