The US Department of Justice said that the infrastructure of the Russian botnet, known as RSOCKS, has been eliminated.
The operation was reportedly carried out jointly by the United States, Great Britain, Germany and the Netherlands. A network called RSOCKS connected millions of hacked computers and other electronic devices around the world.
The ministry said in a statement that the operation to combat the hacker network began in 2017. Then it turned out that the criminals had hacked about 325,000 electronic devices, many of which were located in San Diego County.
The botnet was originally designed for use in the Internet of Things (IoT), but the network was able to be used on other types of devices, including on the Android platform, and on ordinary computers.
The investigation was conducted by the American Prosecutor’s Office, the FBI, the Department of Computer Crimes of the Ministry of Justice. Neither the names nor the number of hackers involved in the network are disclosed.
