Secret materials: In China, they announced the detection of signals of an alien civilization

Scientists of the Chinese Academy of Sciences reported that the giant Sky Eye radio telescope recorded a signal that could have been sent by an alien civilization. It is unclear why the announcement of the discovery was removed from the website of the Chinese edition of Science and Technology Daily, although the news managed to spread on the social network Weibo and was picked up by other Chinese media.

The narrowband electromagnetic signals detected by Sky Eye are very different from the previous ones, and the team continues to study them. The signals are analyzed by the group for the search for extraterrestrial civilizations, co-founded by Beijing Pedagogical University, the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of California at Berkeley.

In September 2020, the Sky Eye radio telescope, located in the southwestern Chinese province of Guizhou, officially began the search for extraterrestrial life. The team found two sets of suspicious signals in 2020 while processing data collected in 2019, and more recently discovered another suspicious signal in 2022 based on exoplanet observation data, said Zhang Tongjie, chief scientist of the Extraterrestrial Intelligence Search group.

“Sky Eye is extremely sensitive in the low-frequency radio range and plays an important role in the search for alien civilizations. The probability that we were able to detect the signal of an extraterrestrial civilization is very high. However, this signal may also turn out to be ordinary radio interference. We need additional research to confirm that this is a signal from aliens, or, conversely, to exclude such a possibility,” Zhang added.
