The number of mobile Trojan infections is growing amid a decrease in the number of other threats

According to the latest quarterly report of Kaspersky Lab on mobile threats, despite the decrease in the total number of infections, the number of Trojan infections (including banking and spyware) has been growing since 2020.

Compared to the previous quarter, the number of detected infections with mobile banking Trojans increased by 40%. And compared to the first quarter of 2021, this indicator has grown to a widow.

According to the report, banking Trojans have become more accessible and cheaper, so that even low-skilled hackers can buy on hacker forums and Telegram channels.

In particular, the number of infections with a new family of banking Trojans tracked by Kaspersky Lab as Trojan-Banker has increased rapidly in the current quarter.AndroidOS.Bray. In the first quarter of 2022, it accounted for 81% of all detected mobile Trojans.

Since the beginning of this year, LC specialists have identified several interesting trends. One of them is the increase in the number of fraudulent applications in official stores, including the Google Play Store.

In the first quarter of 2022, fraudsters actively exploited the topic of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, offering applications allegedly providing financial assistance against the background of sanctions and restrictions. In fact, the applications stole users’ money by redirecting them to external malicious sites.

In general, the events and conditions fueling the trends of the last quarter remain unchanged, so it is expected that the spread of Trojans will continue to replace other threats, in particular adware and potentially dangerous software.

Mobile devices are often the weak link in the security chain, and their presence in the corporate environment continues to grow. Unfortunately, this is not always done with proper security measures.
