RCN proposed to toughen the punishment for the illegal use of personal data


On May 26, a regular meeting of the Public Council under Roskomnadzor was held. The main issues of the meeting concerned the legislative regulation of the activities of bloggers with an audience of more than 100 thousand subscribers.

In his opening remarks, the head of Roskomnadzor, Andrey Lipov, briefed the members of the Public Council on the current work of the department. In particular, about information attacks on Russian users that began from the very first hours of the start of a special military operation. In social networks, on websites, in advertising and banner networks, the content and the volume of Ukrainian nationalist propaganda displays were prohibitive, texts, videos, pictures were created in advance and paid by the West for billions of rubles.

“Since the end of February, we have identified and removed over 117 thousand fakes about the essence of the conflict, the actions and losses of the armed forces, 38 thousand calls for protests, blocked 1,177 resources with Ukrainian nationalist propaganda with a total audience of over 202 million users,” Lipov said.

The head of the department also noted that Roskomnadzor took part in the development of a draft law providing for increased penalties for violations of the law on personal data. The document provides for tougher liability up to criminal liability for persons engaged in the sale of stolen personal data.

Andrey Tsyganov, Chairman of the Commission for the Protection of Children from Destructive and Dangerous Content as part of the Public Council under Roskomnadzor, made a number of proposals to promote value-oriented content in online communities.
