The attackers earned $430,000 with two links

The attackers took over the Twitter account of the famous American artist Mike Winkelman, known under the pseudonym Beeple. Hackers placed two phishing links in the artist’s account, which were active for about five hours and brought the attackers more than $ 430,000 before Mike managed to restore access to his account. Gullible users were not stopped even by warnings from influencers and NFT researchers.

Experts believe that hackers took advantage of the recent collaboration of Louis Vuitton and Beeple, because a fake tweet on behalf of the artist sounded like this: “LV and I have been working on this behind the scenes for a long time. 1000 unique instances… The official draw is below.”

After returning access to the account, Beeple said that everything was under control and thanked the team Gary Vaynerchuk for quick help with the problem. The artist also added that he has never posted and will not post ads about the unexpected distribution of NFT in the early hours of Sunday morning.
