The factories of a major tire manufacturer Bridgestone-Firestone in North America and Latin America were shut down due to a cyberattack that occurred on February 27 this year.

According to representatives of the USW 1155L trade union representing workers at the Bridgestone-Firestone factory, the company is still struggling with the cyberattack and people are not yet able to return to their jobs.

“After learning about a potential incident in the early morning of February 27, we launched a comprehensive investigation to quickly gather facts while working to ensure the security of our IT systems. As a precaution, we have shut down many of our manufacturing facilities in Latin America and North America, including the Warren TBR plant. Work on the first shift was stopped, so these employees were sent home,” the company explained.

Currently, the company cannot determine with certainty the scale or nature of this incident. Local news outlets from all over the US reported power outages at factories in Iowa, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Canada.
