Google Maps Inc. has temporarily blocked for Ukraine some tools that provide real-time information about traffic jams and congestion of various public places, such as restaurants and shops. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the company.
Disabled features include real-time traffic overlay on Google Maps — a feature some researchers have used to monitor the conflict from afar — as well as Live Business, a feature that shows how popular a location can be at a given time.
Google has made changes to ensure the safety of Ukrainians, and after consulting with local authorities, the company said.
According to Google, real-time traffic information remains available to drivers in Ukraine using turn-by-turn navigation functions.
